Premier Christy Clark issued the following statement regarding Saanich North and the Islands MLA Murray Coell’s decision not to seek re-election:
“Murray Coell and I were both elected together in 1996. I consider him a personal friend and have great admiration for his work ethic and passion for his community and public service.
“Murray deserves our praise and admiration for over 28 years of public service to the residents of Saanich and the Islands. From helping create the Gulf Islands National Park to helping build Saanich Commonwealth Place when he was mayor he has certainly made a difference in his community.
“As one of the longest serving MLAs in caucus Murray was essential to helping elect our Party to government in 2001. I want to thank Murray for everything he has done to help build the free enterprise coalition in British Columbia.
“I wish him, Corrine and his entire family all the best as they enter the next chapter of their lives. Thank you Murray.”
